Job Description

QBE Re is the reinsurance division of the QBE Insurance Group. We have an exciting role for an individual looking to use their technical knowledge to improve on current business processes, with a desire to learn about insurance/reinsurance at the same time. This is a technical role based in the UK, with cross-team functionality exposure across the whole of QBE Re including colleagues from our global offices.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Initially supporting, managing and updating current business processes. This covers various areas of the business and is a joint effort across the different teams within QBE Re.
  • Responsibilities include liaising within QBE Re across the underwriting, claims, and various support teams as well as internal central teams including performance, actuarial and finance.
  • Awareness and understanding of the business drivers for the function that they are supporting
  • Use appropriate systems and procedures to ensure accurate data is used.
  • Adopt best-business-practices where appropriate such as ensuring reports/models are less prone to human-error
  • Produce and manage ad-hoc reporting at short notice in response to queries from business units

Essential Technical Skills:

  • Basic Insurance/reinsurance market knowledge
  • Intermediate Excel (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, PivotTables)
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • SSRS (Report Builder)
  • SQL
  • Ability to resolve problems logically and efficiently

Desirable Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic data warehouse principles (star schema)
  • Hyperion SmartView
  • Power Query
  • Power BI
  • Data cubes

Essential People Skills:

  • Transparency – keeping stakeholders and/or all parties that are involved with regular updates
  • Articulation – ability to explain complex technical processes/words in a way that’s easy to understand
  • Requirements gathering

This position offers the opportunity to progress within the team and to take on more responsibility so there is an expectation for the candidate to learn about all aspects of the business, business processes and new technology and contributing to making improvements where appropriate.
